During extreme heat, windows and doors usually stay closed and cooling systems run for long stretches. That puts more of the indoor experience in the hands of the HVAC system, filtration, ventilation and moisture control.
Temperature and humidity are different measurements
A thermostat can show a comfortable temperature while indoor relative humidity is still higher than you want. In hot weather, it is useful to watch both. If humidity stays elevated, look for patterns rather than assuming that a lower thermostat setting will solve the moisture problem.
Long run times make maintenance more noticeable
Filters, condensate drains and HVAC performance matter all year, but a long Texas cooling season gives small maintenance issues more time to show themselves. If the system struggles to hold temperature, produces unusual odors or shows drainage problems, an HVAC professional should evaluate it.
